FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana University has partnered with rSmart, a leader in enterprise resource planning software for higher education, to provide the software behind One.IU, the university’s award-winning app store for online services. RSmart will offer the software as a cloud-based, subscription service to other education and research institutions across the country.

“’Search. Click. Done.’ is the new standard in effectiveness for campus services,” said Brad Wheeler, IU’s chief information officer. “One.IU enables a fast and clear service outcome by replacing navigating to a system with today’s more familiar approach of search. It is a must-have, post-portal, modern approach for institutions that are looking to improve student, staff and faculty experiences across hundreds of digital services.”

One.IU was created in 2013 when IU began a mass simplification of its online service experience for students, staff and faculty to quickly find and get things done through university services.  Typing in in a desired outcome — such as “grade,” “paycheck,” “add course,” “change benefits,” “clock in,” “buy tickets,” etc. — directly connects to that specific service. It was designed with a modern user experience, core search functionality similar to Google and other popular search engines, and user-rating features similar to an app store. Since its deployment, access to more than 200 apps has been dramatically streamlined for 130,000 users across IU’s eight campuses.

Today, many institutions use a legacy campus portal to tie all of their campus services together. But the decade-old user experience is outdated and does not match modern expectations born from the use of Google, iPhones and Amazon. RSmart’s new offering will help campus leaders nationwide deliver immediate value and user experience improvement at a fraction of the price they would pay for a legacy portal. It also creates consistency for the wide range of applications on campus as well as the explosion of new cloud-based services.

“Indiana University has a long history of creating innovations that solve common challenges and meet the needs of their students, faculty and staff. RSmart is excited to partner with IU to make their innovation available to all higher education institutions,” said Chris Coppola, rSmart CEO.

In May, the development team for One.IU received the Tech Services Award at the 15th annual TechPoint Mira Awards in the “IT to Support Business” category for One.IU.

The One.IU service via rSmart is also going through service validation with Internet2’s NET+ service offerings. Through contracts with many companies, Internet2 is creating a unified, integrated portfolio of cloud and trust solutions that efficiently solve problems for its 500-plus members.

The One.IU team and University Information Technology Services leadership partnered with the IU Research and Technology Corp. to quickly translate this proven IU innovation to the marketplace.
