The LGRAD program helps Lilly employees obtain advanced degrees in one of the existing graduate programs from the School of Medicine or School of Science. With the goal of fostering collaborative relationships that result in strong, publishable thesis work, this highly selective program offers advance training focused on graduate student research in the general area of biomedical sciences. LGRAD students will be mentored by an advisor from the School of Science or the School of Medicine and a sponsor from Lilly Research Laboratories.
“With supportive mentors at the school and at Lilly, the LGRAD program provides a unique opportunity for working scientists to pursue scholarship and professional development without pausing their careers,” said David Skalnik, Ph.D., associate dean for research and graduate education and professor of biology at the School of Science. “IUPUI is excited about this partnership with Lilly as it will advance the Indiana economy as we invest in Indiana scientists.”
“The LGRAD program is an opportunity to strengthen our ties with colleagues at Lilly,” said Randy R. Brutkiewicz, Ph.D., associate dean for graduate studies and professor of microbiology and immunology at the IU School of Medicine. “This program is truly a two-way collaboration with an innovative approach that will enhance the training of the 21st-century scientific workforce.” Brutkiewicz also is the director of the National Institutes of Health Bridges to the Doctorate Program at the IU School of Medicine.
The program is designed for Lilly Research Labs employees based in Indianapolis. Participation is highly selective and requires management approval. This competitive program provides a flexible framework for Lilly employees to fully satisfy normal requirements for graduate study while maintaining their employment. Tuition will be covered by Lilly.
Graduate degree offerings from the School of Science include biology (M.S., Ph.D.), chemistry and chemical biology (M.S., Ph.D.), clinical psychology (Ph.D.), computer and information science (M.S., Ph.D.), industrial organizational psychology (M.S.), mathematics (M.S., Ph.D.), mathematics-applied statistics (M.S.), physics (M.S., Ph.D.), and addiction neuroscience (Ph.D.). With the exception of biostatistics, which offers a doctoral degree from Indiana University, these graduate programs lead to the awarding of Purdue University degrees.
