Herron open house features work of graduating master’s degree candidates

INDIANAPOLIS — Gallery doors open to the public at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 1, as Herron School of Art and Design celebrates the accomplishments of its graduating master’s degree candidates.

This year’s annual MFA Exhibition, “Look/See 2014,” takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. in the galleries of Eskenazi Hall, 735 W. New York St., and the Eskenazi Fine Arts Center, 1410 Indiana Ave. The open house is free of charge and features tours of open studios, along with food and entertainment.

The 18 master’s degree candidates represent nine states and the academic programs in ceramics, furniture design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

Locations and the students exhibiting there are:

  • Eskenazi Fine Arts Center: Steven Baker, Michael Helsley, Christopher Martin, John Collins McCormick, Colin Tury and Stephanie Kristen Erin Wichmann.
  • Basile Gallery in Eskenazi Hall: Samuel R. Ladwig.
  • Marsh Gallery in Eskenazi Hall: Melissa Michelle Hopson and Southard Freeland.
  • Berkshire, Paul and Reese Galleries in Eskenazi Hall: Denise Conrady, Lauren Davis, Margaret Elizabeth Ingram, Sarah Kasch, Hillary Russell, Marna Lee Shopoff, Bridgit Stoffer, Elizabeth Wierzbicki and David Woolf.

Herron’s Annual Honors and Awards Ceremony for undergraduate students and their families kicks off the day’s celebration at 4 p.m. at the IUPUI Campus Center, 420 University Blvd.

Complimentary parking will be available in the surface lots next to Eskenazi Hall and the Eskenazi Fine Arts Center during this event, courtesy of The Great Frame Up. If the Eskenazi Hall lot is full, limited parking is available in the Sports Complex Garage just west of Herron. Look/See participants should park on the visitors’ side of the Sports Complex Garage and bring parking tickets to the Herron Galleries for validation.

Continuous shuttle service between Eskenazi Hall and Eskenazi Fine Arts Center will be available throughout the evening.
