FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS — The Steward Speakers Series will conclude its 28th season when it hosts retired Gen. Colin Powell at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott on Thursday, April 10.

The public activities during the evening with Powell include dinner beginning at 6:45 p.m., followed by a lecture and Q&A at 7:45 p.m. and a book signing from 9 to 9:30 p.m.

Tickets for the dinner and lecture, in the Marriott second-floor ballroom at 350 S. Maryland St.,  are available for $125. They can be purchased at www.stewardspeakers.org.

One of the most admired and respected leaders in America today, Powell will offer his thoughts on domestic and world affairs, leadership and a vision for tomorrow.

Powell served as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was appointed secretary of state by President George W. Bush. A four-star general, Powell earned numerous awards, including two Presidential Medals of Freedom. He is the author of the best-selling autobiography, “My American Journey.” His second book, an instant New York Times bestseller titled “It Worked for Me,” reveals the lessons that shaped his life and career.

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis is a title sponsor for the Steward Speakers 28th anniversary season that kicked off Sept. 30, 2013, with an event hosted at the NCAA Indianapolis headquarters. It continued with a lecture featuring attorney Judy Smith at Ivy Tech Community College; an evening with education expert Steve Perry and Essence magazine Editor-in-Chief Emeritus Susan L. Taylor at the Madame Walker Theatre; and a panel discussion featuring Dawn Rhodes, the IUPUI vice chancellor of administration, and Karin Sarratt, the vice president of talent management and chief diversity officer at WellPoint.

The Steward Speakers Series provides continuous education and awareness to Indianapolis residents interested in empowerment topics. The program allows the community to dialogue on important issues of the day with celebrities, leaders and experts in particular fields.
