Former state health commissioner to present Merritt Lecture

INDIANAPOLIS — Former Indiana State Health Commissioner Judith A. Monroe, M.D., will present the annual Doris H. Merritt, M.D., Lectureship in Women’s Health. The annual event is hosted by the Indiana University National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health.

Dr. Monroe, who is the deputy director for state, tribal, local and territorial support efforts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will present “Obesity and Its Public Health Implications in Maternal Fetal Health” at 8:15 a.m. Sept. 11.

Dr. Monroe previously served as Indiana state health commissioner from 2005 to 2010, focusing on health promotion and prevention, preparedness, preventing medical errors and quality improvement.

The lecture will be in the Walther Hall auditorium, 980 W. Walnut St., Indianapolis, on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus. The lecture is free, but reservations are appreciated by calling 317-944-4080. Continuing medical education credit is available.
