Palakal receives distinguished service award from computing group

INDIANAPOLIS – The Special Interest Group on Applied Computing has awarded Mathew Palakal, associate dean for graduate studies and research in the IU School of Informatics at IUPUI, its Distinguished Service Award for providing outstanding service to the organization’s annual Symposium on Applied Computing.

Recipients of this award have held different positions on the symposium organizing committee. Palakal has been a member of the committee since 2004, serving as track chair, posters chair, e-conference management chair and program co-chair. Palakal’s work with the poster program was cited in particular, with organization officials saying he “started it and nurtured it to become a successful part of the symposium.”

The Special Interest Group on Applied Computing works to further the interests of computing professionals engaged in the development of new computing applications and application areas and the transfer of computing technology to new problem domains.
