The program and ribbon-cutting will be from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at the school at 1140 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. A reception and open house will follow, concluding at 6 p.m.
The Attucks Simulation Laboratory will house sophisticated computer-controlled virtual patients similar to those used to teach Indiana University School of Medicine students, other health care students and medical professionals at the Fairbanks Hall Simulation Center, operated jointly by the IU School of Medicine and IU Health.
The Attucks Simulation Laboratory will simulate biological systems and be used to supplement classroom training annually for the nearly 700 Attucks students studying anatomy, physiology and health in premedical education programs and for students in the certified nursing assistant program.
The laboratory was made possible by a Howard Hughes Medical Institute grant awarded to the Division of Diversity Affairs at the IU School of Medicine. Crispus Attucks, an Indianapolis Public Schools program, is designed for students interested in careers in the sciences or medical profession.
