Sunglasses for healthy eyes. Indianapolis-based ophthalmologist Chris Browning, O.D., explains why it’s important to wear sunglasses – good ones.

Advances in glaucoma diagnosis and treatment.  Renowned glaucoma expert Robert Weinreb, M.D., will discuss new ways to diagnose and treat this increasingly prevalent eye disease. Dr. Weinreb will keynote the second annual Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute Vision Research Symposium on Friday, August 19, in Indianapolis.

Eyewear for young athletes. Parents and coaches often forget the importance of protecting the eyes of kids playing sports. Jeremy Shere will get advice on the topic from optometrist Paul Berman, O.D.

Heart murmurs. Cardiothoracic surgeon Mark Gerdisch, M.D., explains when it is important to take a heart murmur seriously. Dr. Gerdisch practices at the St. Francis Heart Center in Indianapolis.

CIA vaccine ruse. The CIA allegedly staged a vaccination hoax in order to gather DNA from Osama bin Laden’s relatives. IU bioethicist Eric Meslin, Ph.D., and IU public health policy expert Steve Jay, M.D., discuss the practical implications of using health campaigns for ulterior purposes.

Coffee’s protective effects. IU breast cancer specialist Kathy Miller, M.D., will provide an overview of several studies that show coffee can protect against breast and prostate cancers. Dr. Miller practices at the IU Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis.
