KatzB003c57

Dr. Katz also is a professor of biostatistics and an adjunct professor of public health at the IU School of Medicine and an adjunct professor of preventative and community dentistry at the IU School of Dentistry.

Dr. Katz has served as director of the Division of Biostatistics since 1995. Effective July 1, the division was elevated to an independent department led by Dr. Katz.

The division opened with three faculty members in 1984 as a section of the Regenstrief Institute. It became a division in the IU Department of Medicine in the late 1980s. The new Department of Biostatistics has 17 faculty members, a large cadre of research staff and offers Ph.D. and M.P.H. degree programs. In the future, it will be become part of the soon-to-be-established IU School of Public Health.

Biostatistics faculty and staff have a long history of close collaboration with researchers in many schools at IUPUI, particularly the schools of medicine, dentistry and nursing.  The biostatistics faculty members also generate and conduct their own research, developing novel methods that improve the design and analysis of biomedical studies.  The new department is poised to expand its collaborative and methodological research, as well as its teaching activities.

More information about the new department can be found at www.biostat.iupui.edu.
