<p>Steven G. Becker, M.D., has been named as the interim assistant dean and interim director of the Indiana University School of Medicine – Evansville. He succeeds Rex D. Stith, Ph.D., who served the medical school and its Evansville program for the past 18 years in that position.</p>

Dr. Becker’s new duties begin March 21, pending approval of the Trustees of Indiana University. His duties will include serving as a part-time professor of radiology and imaging sciences.

Currently medical director, radiologist and medical staff president at St. Mary’s Warrick Hospital, Boonville, Dr. Becker has been a practicing radiologist in the greater Evansville area since 1986. He was formerly medical director and clinical instructor of radiology technologists at St. Mary’s Medical Center and Welborn Hospital.

Dr. Becker was also the founding member and president of Southern Indiana Imaging Consultants, which provides radiology services to St. Mary’s and Gibson General Hospital. Dr. Becker has been a volunteer clinical instructor of radiology anatomy at IUSM-Evansville since 2001.

Dr. Becker received his bachelor’s of science degree in biology from Brown University and his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Mo. He completed an internship in obstetrics and gynecology at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, and his residency in diagnostic radiology at Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, Tenn.

Dr. Stith will continue to teach at IUSM-Evansville as a professor of physiology.

IUSM-Evansville, located on the campus of the University of Southern Indiana, is one of nine academic centers where IU medical students are educated. The others are located at Bloomington, Fort Wayne, the primary campus at Indianapolis, Lafayette, Muncie, Northwest, South Bend and Terre Haute.
