IU School of Medicine Aug 19, 2009
Olympic swimmer and testicular cancer survivor Eric Shanteau will ring the bell alongside his oncologist Lawrence Einhorn, M.D., who with George Sledge, M.D., and others will commemorate the ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) Cancer Foundation’s 10th anniversary.
Their appearance at the stock exchange will help the ASCO Cancer Foundation raise awareness of the need for cancer funding to improve cancer prevention and patient care through education and research.
Dr. Sledge is currently president-elect of ASCO. He will serve as ASCO president beginning in June 2010. Dr. Sledge, a nationally recognized pioneer in the development of novel therapies for breast cancer, is the Ballve-Lantero Professor of Oncology and professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and physician-researcher at the IU Simon Cancer Center.
Dr. Einhorn, who distinguished himself early in his career with his development in 1974 of a chemotherapy regimen for testicular cancer, is a Distinguished Professor and the Lance Armstrong Professor of Medicine at the IU School of Medicine and physician-researcher at the IU Simon Cancer Center.
Dr. Einhorn was president of ASCO from 2000 to 2001.
