The MD program on the Fort Wayne campus offers the same high quality medical education curriculum offered at all the school’s statewide campuses.

MD Education

Faculty at the IU School of Medicine Fort Wayne campus are physician and PhD educators who are expert instructors in the fields of medical biochemistry, anatomy, histology, cell biology, embryology, microbiology, immunology, physiology, pharmacology and neuroscience. Three part-time faculty serve as course directors for Foundations for Clinical Practice, Introduction to Clinical Medicine II and as the Clerkship Director. Eight tenured full-time faculty teach the first- and second-year curriculums. Additionally, approximately 90 local physicians assist with specialized lectures and serve as preceptors for first- and second-year students.

Students at this campus also benefit from the proximity to the three Lutheran Health Network hospitals and the two Parkview Regional Medical Center hospitals and other reputable clinical care facilities. The clinical education portion of the IU School of Medicine MD curriculum, including third- and fourth-year clerkships and electives in Fort Wayne, are held at these patient care facilities.

The third-year academic program offers clerkship opportunities in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Surgery, Specialty in Surgery (Trauma, Urology, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Cardiovascular, ENT, Transplant) and an elective.
