About Tara
Tara Hobson, PhD, is the director of faculty development within Faculty Affairs and Professional Development and an assistant professor of clinical anatomy, cell biology, and physiology at Indiana University School of Medicine. In her director position, she leads professional and career development and mentoring initiatives to support faculty, academic staff, administrators and learners. She is a certified facilitator for the National Research Mentoring Network/Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research, the NIH Resilient Scientist Training Program, and the NIH-funded Emerging Scientists Program. Tara seeks to enhance faculty mentorship, education, training and professional development planning with a scholarly interest in professional identity formation, personal identity characteristics and career advancement.
Tara is a 2024 recipient of the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) Women in Medicine and Biomedical Science Rising Star Award. In 2019, her faculty development and support contributions were recognized with the Deb Cowley Staff Leadership Award. Other honors include Outstanding Woman Staff Leader, the IU School of Medicine Hard Wired Award for Achievement, and the Mentor of the Year Award.
Tara completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology at Indiana University. Her doctoral degree is in higher education leadership from Indiana State University. She is a 2017 alumna of the HERS Leadership Program for Women in Higher Education and Luce Foundation Fellow.
