The 2025 Scaife Medical Student Fellowship in Substance Use Disorders application is now open. The application period closes on Sunday, February 16 at midnight.

The fellowship is a three-week program. The first week consists of remote virtual learning and two weeks of onsite experiential learning in Pittsburgh, PA. The session dates are June 2–June 20 and July 7–July 25.

The fellowship aims to enhance knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Screening for and diagnosing substance use disorders.
  • Brief motivational interviewing skills
  • Adolescent substance use
  • Substance use and pregnancy.
  • Special populations and addiction treatment
  • Harm reduction strategies.
  • Residential/inpatient and outpatient treatment modalities
  • Family issues in treatment
  • Psychiatric co-morbidity
  • Medication-Assisted treatment (MAT)
  • Providing referrals to addiction treatment from medical settings

Medical students attending schools in the United States, regardless of specialty, are encouraged to apply.
