MS1s: Apply for Johns Hopkins oncology program by Jan. 31

Class of 2028: apply by January 31 for this great opportunity to engage in radiation oncology research.

The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Cancer Research Education Excellence in Radiotherapy (CaREER) program is an NIH/NCI-funded R25 education and training program designed for the next generation of radiation oncology trainees. It is tailored to provide comprehensive training and education in radiation oncology, preparing trainees for a successful career in this specialized area of medicine.

Key Program Features

  • A mentored 12-week hands-on research experience through a co-op mentored by world-class cancer researchers and clinicians at Johns Hopkins and collaborators.
    • The training will help expand the trainee’s research skills, sharpen critical thinking, and develop practical team participation and collaboration skills.
    • The aim is to facilitate trainees’ abilities to conduct independent research and publish or present their work at CaREER workshops and other conferences.
  • Year-round complementary didactic CaREER program activities with research seminars and workshops for students. Seminars will focus on radiotherapy research areas, responsible conduct of research, research design, leadership, and cross-cultural communication.
    • Meanwhile, annual CaREER workshops will focus on knowledge/experience sharing, research posters, oral presentations by trainees, and networking opportunities.

CaREER is intended for medical students in good standing and interested in building on their experience in radiation oncology research. Students will learn innovative technologies used in clinical research, medical physics, and discovery research in cancer biology.

Applicants from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented minorities are encouraged, as well as students interested in global health. The number of fellowships is limited. Admission is highly competitive. All applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and have working authorization.

The in-person portion of the program spans 12 weeks. Applicants unable to commit to a full 12-week period will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Decisions will be sent by email in early March 2025.

Email Karla Jusczyk Bun for questions regarding the CaREER program.
