The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) invites you to apply by February 21 for its mentorship program, the Dr. Leon L. Haley Jr. Bridge to the Future of Emergency Medicine Academy.
Designed specifically for underrepresented in medicine (URiM) early second-year medical students, the award-winning Haley Academy has earned recognition for its excellence. The program, held from June 6-20 at the ABEM headquarters in East Lansing, Mich., is an in-person, all-expense paid opportunity.
Participants are able to connect with ABEM board members and URiM thought leaders in emergency medicine. You will benefit from this mentorship aimed at advancing diversity within the field.
Program Details:
- Up to 12 URiM, early second-year medical students will be selected.
- Students must have completed their first year of medical school and have time away before starting their second year.
- Educational sessions on public health initiatives to reduce health disparities, applying to residency, and career counseling.
- Students will complete a short capstone project on health disparities or health inequities.
- Opportunity to travel to two nearby emergency medicine residency programs and join local faculty and residents for hands-on simulation and didactic experiences.
