IU School of Medicine names new associate dean, director for West Lafayette campus

Matthew Tews, DO, MS, has been named the next associate dean and director for Indiana University School of Medicine in West Lafayette. The Midwest native currently serves as Professor of Emergency Medicine and Associate Dean for Educational Simulation at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University, providing leadership for their Simulation, Clinical Skills, Standardized Patient, and Research and Evaluation programs. He is also a practicing emergency physician.

In July 2021, Regina A. Kreisle, MD, PhD, associate dean and director of Indiana University School of Medicine-West Lafayette will retire from her position after 30 years of service. Although her initial career trajectory was as a researcher, her wisdom and dedication to teaching has impacted countless students and junior faculty members throughout the years.

Cultural differences are central to understanding why health care disparities persist in Indiana and throughout the United States, affecting many people in the Hispanic/Latino population. This is the first installment in a series of blog posts to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Each year, National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 to October 15, celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Running toward the fire – IU School of Medicine student, combat veteran honored as Tillman Scholar

Guadalupe Jimenez remembers sitting in her guidance counselor’s office in Long Island, New York, discussing her plans for college, when the news broke that the twin towers had been hit on Sept. 11, 2001. Jimenez, a high school senior at the time, was considering applying to nursing school.
