FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS — The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art will present a cultural competency workshop addressing Native American stereotypes. The IUPUI community is invited to attend the event, sponsored in part by the IUPUI American Indian Programs.

The Eiteljorg Museum, 500 W. Washington St., will present “Beyond American Indian Stereotypes: A Symposium for Educators” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 13.

Symposium attendees will learn to recognize stereotypes about American Indians, and will leave with a “tool kit” of resources for incorporating information about American Indians in a variety of inter-disciplinary studies.

Nationally known educators Maria Lopez, president of Indigenous Strategies, and Adrienne Keene, creator of the Native Appropriations Blog, are symposium speakers.

The fee is $10. To register, call 317-275-1310.
