Three Indiana University Alumni to Receive Honors During Busy Reunion Weekend

Members of IU medical school classes will gather at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis for a workshop on the harmony of art in healing, a campus art tour and class reunions. The awards will be presented to distinguished alumni at 5:45 at a reception in Scholars Hall at the University Place Hotel and Conference Center.

Recipients will be:

  • Rodney Perkins, M.D., class of 1961, 2011 Distinguished Alumnus A native of Evansville, Ind., Dr. Perkins is a medical entrepreneur now living in central California.
  • Bryan Schneider, M.D., class of 1999, residency 2002, 2011 Early Career Achievement Award A medical oncologist at the Indiana University Melvin and Bryn Simon Cancer Center, Dr. Schneider is a native of Jasper, Ind.    
  • Joseph Fitzgerald, M.D., class of 1965, residency 1967, Glenn W. Irwin Jr., M.D., Distinguished Faculty Award Dr. Fitzgerald is a pediatric gastroenterologist at Riley Hopsital for Children at IU Health. He is a native of Chicago.

Arts and Healing, a one-day professional development and enrichment program focusing on the role of the arts in health care, will be May 20 is open to the community.

Medical Alumni Reunion weekend is sponsored annually in May by the IU School of Medicine Alumni Association. With nearly 18,000 alumni, the IU School of Medicine is the second largest medical school in the United States.
