Administrators of Internal Medicine (AIM) is a subgroup of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM). The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an AIM member who has made significant contributions to the field of administration of academic internal medicine.
Sotto, who is Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs, Development and Diversity in the Department of Medicine, was honored with the award on April 12 during Academic Internal Medicine Week in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“I cannot think of anyone more worthy of this award than Dr. Sotto,” said David Aronoff, MD, Chair of the Department of Medicine.
Aronoff described Sotto as an “outstanding administrator and practitioner-scholar,” lauding her work on racism, discrimination, and institutional bias in medicine, and noting her impact on both the department and the school.
“Dr. Sotto continually brings together scholarship and practice in ways that positively challenge institutional practices, influence reflection and action, and expand the conceptual frameworks used in academic medicine,” he said.
On Twitter, Sotto’s colleagues and friends echoed these sentiments.
Sotto, who has been involved in the organization since 2012 as a volunteer, council member, president, and member of the board of directors, said that her work with AAIM and AIM has been "fulfilling every step of the way."
"I thank the crew at Indiana University that has made this work fun," she said. "I thank you from the bottom of my heart."
