The online submission portal for the annual Department of Medicine Trainee Research Competition is now open and ready to accept abstracts. The deadline for abstract submissions is 5 pm on March 26, 2024.
(Abstracts submitted after the deadline will not be accepted, so please plan accordingly.)
Follow these instructions:
- Go to the Department of Medicine Intranet at Research Competition Submission.
- If you have difficulties with the above link, try https://portal.medicinedept.iu.edu.
- Log in using your standard IU log in username and password.
- On your dashboard you will see a tile for Research Competition in your “Favorites” group.
- Click on this tile and it will bring you to the “Research Competition Abstract” page. - Complete all sections of the submission form. (Only the coworker acknowledgements are optional.)
- You can cut the text from another document and paste it into the abstract text sections.
- There is a 3,000 character (approximately 500 word) length restriction for the abstract text content as a whole.
- You can submit one table, graph, figure, etc. in the supporting documentation area.
THESE MUST BE CONVERTED TO PDF FORMAT BEFORE UPLOAD - Click "Complete." A notification will be sent to you as confirmation of submission.
Please note that your listed primary mentor will also receive a notification of submission and will be asked to verify their participation in the abstract development and your role(s) in the research project. However, if you do not have a mentor, no worries, just state this; you can still submit your abstract without having a listed mentor.

All abstracts will be reviewed and scored by departmental faculty. The top four abstracts from each group will be invited to present their research orally during The Department of Medicine’s Celebration of Science Day on May 31, 2024. The top two scoring abstracts in each group receive cash prizes.
If you cannot attend in person to present your abstract on these dates, you cannot enter the competitions.
