On Monday, September 26, IU School of Medicine announced the 2022 recipients of the Showalter Scholar award.

The 2022 awardees are:

  • Yoshikazu Imanishi, PhD, Associate Professor of Opthamology
  • Sara K. Quinney, PharmD, PhD, Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Babar Khan, MD, Professor of Medicine (Pulmonary and Critical Care)
  • Kwangsik Nho, PhD, Associate Professor of Radiology & Imaging Sciences

Between the four scholars, they have authored over 250 publications and been awarded more than $28 million dollars in grant funding.

In addition to the announcement of the 2022 scholars, three scholar awardees presented to the trustees on the research completed as a result of the funding they had previously received through this program. This included:

  • Sara K. Quinney, Pharm D, PhD (2022 Showalter Scholar) – Model-Informed Drug Development and Precision Dosing: The Role of Pharmacometrics
  • Christopher Michael Robinson, PhD (2019 Showalter Young Investigator) – Virus-Bacteria Interactions in the Gut
  • Edward A. Motea, PhD (2019 Showalter Young Investigator) – Inhibition of cMET Potentiates the Tumor-Selective “Kiss of Death” Mechanism of Action of NQO1-Bioactiatable Agents

The Showalter Awards are funded by the Ralph W. and Grace M. Showalter Trust, established to support research that is most likely to benefit mankind. Eligible scholars are full-time faculty who serve at either the assistant scientist or assistant professor level at the time of application. The program awards up to $75,000 in funding per scholar.
