May I keep my graduation apparel?
Graduates may keep their cap and tassel, but the rented gown and hood must be returned.
Can I purchase my apparel (vs. renting)?
Yes, apparel is available for purchase on the Herff Jones website. Please allow at least six weeks for custom orders.
Are overnight guest room rates available for commencement weekend?
Blocks of rooms have been reserved at the Courtyard Marriott, JW Marriott and Holiday Inn downtown at this link. Reservations must be made no later than Wednesday, April 11, and are available on a first come, first served basis.
What should I wear to commencement?
Comfortable shoes and appropriate apparel. Please keep in mind that the gown will need to be returned prior to departing the Convention Center.
Where can I park for commencement on Saturday?
Indianapolis has several parking options surrounding the Convention Center. The Government Center & Mall garages are conveniently located with skywalks to the Convention Center. Please allow extra time for potential traffic and parking due to multiple programs taking place that morning.
Does the “Countdown to Commencement” apply to me?
Yes, although most of the resources are directed to undergraduate students, they do include valuable information for you, including apparel and additional ordering information.
Will I receive my diploma at graduation?
Students who have met their graduation requirements at the time of graduation will receive their diplomas on stage.
What honor cords are included at graduation?
AOA and Gold Humanism Honor Society are recognized in the IU School of Medicine program. AOA cords are green and white and are distributed to honorees at the annual AOA induction ceremony. Gold Humanism cords are gold and available for pick up the week of graduation.
Which ceremony should I attend (IUPUI or IU School of Medicine)?
The majority of medical students only attend the IU School of Medicine program; however, if you are interested in attending both programs, please contact Rachael Urso in advance to make special arrangements.
Can I order class rings, frames, invitations or announcements?
Herff Jones and Barnes & Noble are the official provider of all things graduation with options available at this link.
I would like to order a frame for my diploma. What are the measurements?

Will a professional photographer be available at graduation?
Grad Images is the official photographer of graduation and will provide proofs for purchase to the address that you provide on a card prior to the commencement program. Three photos will be taken on stage. Individual photo opportunities will be available outside of the ballroom after the ceremony.
