Class of 2026: When considering competitiveness for residency specialties, you should know that residency programs are doing more holistic reviews of candidate applications.
Programs will be very interested in learning who you are, what is important to you, and what you bring to their program/specialty.
There are also some national benchmarks you can use to measure your application metrics against matched applicants in the specialty, like the mean Step 2 scores, research, and scholarly productivity, among others, to help determine your competitiveness.
The NRMP publishes the Charting Outcomes every 2 years. The most recent data is from the Match 2024.
The AAMC CiM Specialty Profiles also provide an insight into matched applicant statistics and demographics.
Use these resources to help determine your baseline competitiveness for specialties that you are considering!
