The Indianapolis Public Library African American History Committee, the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation and other community sponsors honored more than 20 medical professionals in the community for their positive contributions to health care.
Twelve faculty members from IU School of Medicine were among those honored at a reception on October 14, 2022. The honorees received the Dr. George H. Rawls Award, established by the library in honor of the late Dr. Rawls. A professor emeritus of surgery and founding director of the Master of Science in Medical Science program at IU School of Medicine, Dr. Rawls was a pioneer for Black surgeons in Indianapolis and an advocate for minority representation in medicine.
