In the spirit of science and consistent with Indiana University School of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics, the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research is committed to upholding diversity of thought, race, ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status, disability, and geography of origin and residence.
The Wells Center pledges to demonstrate its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion via continued development of focused, systematic, and sustained programs aligned with creating and maintaining representational diversity, an accessible and inclusive environment, and cultural competence. This includes active development of a strong pipeline of diverse up-and-coming researchers through the summer internship and Molecular Medicine in Action (MMIA) programs, as well as training and career development opportunities for current trainees and junior faculty.
The Wells Center recognizes that diversity fosters innovation and excellence in research and strives for representational diversity amongst faculty, students and staff. Wells Center personnel actively work to recruit, retain, support and advance the education and careers of diverse students and faculty.
To support an inclusive environment conducive to teaching, learning, and research productivity, members from the Wells Center regularly solicit and act upon anonymous feedback from colleagues and include DEI teaching and training as part of the center's onboarding and ongoing faculty enrichment opportunities.
