Andrea Ligler

Vice Chair, Clinical and Academic Administration

Andrea Ligler is a veteran in the healthcare industry, specifically within the pharmacy and pathology spaces. She has held positions in areas of operations, finance, and accounting. She joined the department in 2012 as the business manager, and is currently serving as the Vice Chair for Clinical and Academic Administration for Pathology for Indiana University and IU Health Physicians. She is responsible for directing the administrative, financial, education, research, and practice plan operations for the department. Ligler is responsible for a combined annual operating budget of approximately 60 million and also manages large endowments and foundation funds for the department.

Ligler has a passion for leadership and is currently pursuing a doctorate in organizational leadership. As a leader, she believes it is her job to provide direction and protection as she empowers those around her to lead from where they are in the organization, whether or not they have a formal leadership role.

Prior to joining Indiana University Ligler, spent time in pharmacy finance and operations at DailyMed, owned by Arcadia Resources where she was responsible for managing all finance functions; accounts receivable, purchasing, vendor relations, operational metrics, reimbursement analysis and pharmacy credentialing. In addition, she spent 11 years working in accounting and finance for the Walgreen Corporation. Her background in the corporate world has served the department well as she blends academic medicine with the efficiency and savviness of the for profit business models.

In her personal time Ligler serves as a patient advocate for the hypopara community and supports work in scientific advancement in the rare-disease space. She uses her healthcare expertise, passion for leadership, and personal experiences to support vulnerable patient populations, giving a voice to those who have none. She has a passion for laboratory allied health programmatic pipeline development, namely in the medical laboratory science space. She volunteers time for career fairs, research projects, and educating high school students on the numerous opportunities in the field.
