On Thursday, April 20, 2023, Reuben Kapur, PhD, was presented the 2023 Glenn W. Irwin, Jr., MD, Research Scholar Award by IUPUI Interim Chancellor Andrew Klein at the annual Chancellor’s Academic Honors Convocation.

Kapur is the director of the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research and co-program leader of Hematopoiesis and Hematologic Malignancies at the IU Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center. He has worked at Indiana University School of Medicine since 1994 when he started as a Howard Hughes Research Fellow at the Wells Center.

“I feel honored and humbled,” said Kapur. “It’s also somewhat satisfying to look back and reflect upon my contributions to research to improve the health of children over the last 29 years.”

The award is IUPUI’s highest recognition of outstanding continuing research by a colleague and recognizes the achievements of Dr. Glenn W. Irwin, Jr., who was a professor, dean of the School of Medicine, chancellor of the Indianapolis campus and vice president of Indiana University.

Kapur joins a prestigious group of 28 previous Glenn W. Irwin, Jr., M.D., Research Scholar recipients who have implemented a sustained record of research, accomplished successful grant writing, and made a lasting impact on their field of study.
