Dear Indiana University School of Medicine Class of 2023,
In a few weeks, most of you will start your journey on your clinical rotations. How exciting! You are going to take all of that knowledge you’ve accumulated and finally put it to use with patients as a medical student. There is still much learning to be done, a lifetime actually, but we do hope you take a moment to step back and appreciate the enormous feat you have accomplished. You should be proud of yourselves.
The Gold Humanism Honor Society is excited for you to join the clinical realm and put not only that medical knowledge to use, but also those humanistic aspects of patient care that drew many of you to medicine in the first place. You are the next class of physicians that have the great responsibility of creating a trusting, mutually respectful, and supportive relationship with your patients. This is an ever-evolving part of the humanistic practice of medicine and it is necessary to protect the health of our patients, especially the most vulnerable. We encourage you to reflect on these humanistic practices daily and commit to a life-long journey of becoming the best physicians you each can be.
We are proud to be your colleagues.
We are thinking of you as you embark on this journey.
We look forward to practicing medicine with you in the not-so-distant future.
With all of our love,
Gold Humanism Honor Society | Class of 2021
IU School of Medicine
P.S. Bring snacks for your white coat pockets. :)
