The two-week NIH Summer course is absolutely free to attendees, with airfare, lodging, and meals paid for by the NIH. Applicants in previous years have had backgrounds in multiple disciplines including biological sciences, psychological sciences, engineering, medicine, physics and mathematics.
The interdisciplinary computational neuroscience short course includes limited experimental and systems neurophysiology components. The background expected is high school level calculus and programming together with a strong interest in learning about computational software. One of our goals is to introduce students to the process of biologically-based modeling incorporating data related to cellular and synaptic neurophysiology.
Indiana Medical Student Program for Research and Scholarship (IMPRS)
Deadline: Jan. 29 Indiana Medical Student Program for Research and Scholarship (IMPRS) applications are due on January 29, 2018. All first-year medical students are encouraged to apply to some form of research and scholarly activity. The intent is to provide, expose and engage all of the IUSM MS1 to participate in a summer research or scholarly activity after completing Phase 1 Year 1.
Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) Summer Research Program
Deadline Feb. 19 This program at the University of Washington in St. Louis offers undergraduate and medical students an excellent introduction to current radiological sciences research. This is a 10-week program based on approximately 40 hours per week; you may start anytime between May 25 and June 8.
Carolinas HealthCare System Summer Research Scholars Program
Deadline Feb. 28 Apply for a program of instruction in research for selected medical students and graduate or undergraduate students enrolled in accredited colleges and universities. Summer scholars work closely with mentors who are performing original research in the clinics or laboratories of Carolinas HealthCare System.
Cancer in the Under-Privileged, Indigent, or Disadvantaged (CUPID)
Program opens Jan. 23 Apply for a laboratory-based summer fellowship program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine that is designed for medical students who have an interest in bringing the benefits of modern cancer research to underserved populations in the US. Four positions are located at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). Four students participated in the program this past summer. The application opens on January 23, 2018.
CNF Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (NDD) Summer Research Scholarship
Deadline: April 23 Each year, the CNF offers one summer clinical research scholarship for a first- or second-year U.S. or Canadian medical student who has an interest in training as a child neurologist. The award is made for clinical research focused in the field of neurodevelopmental disabilities in children to be conducted under the direction of a child neurology/NDD subspecialist during summer break. The selected applicant will receive a $3,500 scholarship to support his or her research project.
Leadership and Innovation Fellowship Training (LIFT) Program in Urology
Deadline Feb. 15 The Department of Urology at UC Irvine would like to announce an excellent research opportunity during the 2018-2019 academic year for medical students interested in urology for MS3 and MS4 students. Up to two positions are offered per year to third-year or fourth-year students attending a US medical school. LIFT research fellows work in the Department of Urology at UC Irvine, conducting some of the most innovative research in urology today.
