The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is an annual, nationwide census conducted each January to provide a one-night snapshot of homelessness. As part of IU School of Medicine's street medicine efforts, we're looking for med students interested in participating in this important effort. We need volunteers at various locations around the state!
PIT records individuals in shelters, transitional housing, or unsheltered locations, generating data that guide local and national homelessness strategies, tracks progress toward equity goals, and informs funding decisions for essential housing solutions. Each count represents a person in need of safe, stable, and affordable housing.
Healthcare professionals, including physicians, often participate by offering treatments during the count.
Those interested in the Street Medicine outreach program in general can sign up here.
