Stanford Clinician Scientist Training Program: Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

The Stanford NIH/NIDCD R25 Clinician Scientist Training Program supports comprehensive training in basic, translational, and clinical research on communications disorders. Trainees are also encouraged to attend and participate in the weekly OHNS research seminars, journal clubs, and sensory neuroscience and engineering seminars. The goal of this program is to train the next generation of physician-scientists in the field of communication disorders. 

Eligibility:

Applicants must be medical students (from any US medical school) and must be sponsored by a Stanford faculty member. The applicant can view our faculty page for more information and reach out to Amy to connect with a Stanford faculty member.  Applicants will be considered based on:

  1. Their research proposal and relevance to communication disorders
  2. Strength of their training and mentoring plan;

  3. Potential to pursue academics and become a physician-scientist. Trainees must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, as required by the NIH-NIDCD.

Our CSTP medical student research track training is full-time for up to nine months. If the proposed training is less than nine months or there will be additional responsibilities (teaching assistantships, clinical training), the applicant should discuss project feasibility with the PI and obtain approval from CSTP leadership. Program Overview

  1. Research plan (max 3 pages),
  2. Letter of recommendation from Stanford faculty describing training/mentoring plan, candidacy of applicant, and potential to become a physician-scientist,
  3. Curriculum vitae,
  4. Appendix (optional).

Fall Application Deadline: April 8, 2024

Expected decisions by May 2024.

Institutional representative: not applicable. Applicants do not need to submit their proposal through an institutional official for review and approval. Please submit proposals directly via the online application link. PI waivers are not required.
