October is World Mental Health Month, and in that spirit, the IU School of Medicine's Department of Mental Health Services (DMHS) would like to share some basic information about mental health treatment:
- Therapy can be helpful for both small stressors and major issues — don’t feel you have to wait for things to escalate to reach out.
- IU School of Medicine mental health services are fully confidential. We have a completely separate Electronic Medical Record system. Nobody outside of DMHS staff will be aware that you’ve sought treatment — not deans, lead advisors, or anyone else.
- DMHS offers targeted therapy appointments, which allows you to book on-demand appointments when you need one, rather than commit to ongoing counseling (although that is also available).
- IU School of Medicine provides many ways to meet your mental health needs, including free services through DMHS (both in-person and telehealth) and various other resources.
- Check out the DMHS website to see the options available to you.
- Scheduling with DMHS is easy: go to the DMHS portal and select the day and time that best fits your schedule! Seeking mental health services can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, but DMHS is here to help.
