In February, the Wellness Coalition sought to inspire students to focus on the theme of “self-love.” In the spirit of self-love, medical students across all campuses were challenged to walk or run at least 40 miles during the month. By the end of February, 103 medical students from eight campuses moved a total of 5,558 miles! That’s a lot of self-love!
The campus with the highest percentage of 40-mile finishers was Fort Wayne, where an impressive 31 students participated in the challenge. Together, they walked and ran a total of 1,802 miles. Fort Wayne should be incredibly proud for getting moving and spending time on their physical wellness!
Other campuses across the state were putting in the work, too. Terre Haute had 21 participants move 1,408 miles, Muncie had 19 participants move 600 miles, and Indianapolis had 13 participants move 777 miles. One student even moved 171 miles on their own! Nineteen students from Bloomington, Evansville, South Bend, and West Lafayette moved 971 miles together. These are huge achievements that all campuses should congratulate themselves for!
Staying active can be difficult when the lectures and Anki cards are piling up, but making time to take care of yourself is incredibly important. We hope that this challenge inspired you to incorporate more physical activity in your busy schedule, even if it’s just walking a few miles a day.
