AIM seeks new facilitators

Three people with light bulb above them
In August 2021, IU School of Medicine launched the Achieving Inclusivity in Medicine (AIM) program in collaboration with the AcadeAIMmy of Healthcare Communication (AHC). AIM uses the relationship-centered health care communication model developed by AHC, along with a lens toward diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.

With overwhelming positive feedback from learners and AIM facilitators across the state, the school is currently developing the third offering of AIM for new student orientation in August 2023. As part of this effort, AIM program leaders are looking for new champions to serve as lead AIM facilitators for this year. Participation in this program can be included in the DEIJ section of a dossier for promotion/tenure purposes, and the school is exploring options for CME credit.

Important dates
The orientation AIM program will take place on Tuesday, August 1, from 9 am to noon ET, and Wednesday, August 2, from 2 to 4:30 pm. At this time, the didactic portion will be held for all students on the Indianapolis campus during the all-school portion of orientation (August 1). The small group skills-practice portion of AIM will take place at local campuses led by local small group facilitators (August 2). Facilitators are not required to participate in the didactic portion; more information will be provided during the training sessions.

Training sessions
New facilitators will be asked to participate in two training sessions. The first session will be an introduction to relationship-centered communication and effective facilitation. The second session, which will take place in July, will be an overview of the AIM 2023 training.
