Full Service Only
Specimen Preparation*
Fixation through embedding
1-2 specimens: $450.00
3-10 specimens: $550.00
Over 10 specimens: +$65.00 each additional
*Electron Microscopy Core fixative will be provided with each project. If not familiar with Electron Microscopy techniques it is highly recommended you contact iCEM with your questions on how to proceed with preparing your specimens.
Microtomy
- Thick** sections (0.5µm) & Toluidine Blue Staining/Block: $65.00
- Thin sections (85-90nm) & Uranyl Acetate Staining/Block: $85.00
**Thick sections are required for all projects. The slide is a reference to quality and orientation of specimens. Images sent to researcher included with this.
Electron Microscopy (TEM)***
Per hour on the scope (Assisted): $200.00
Per hour on the scope (Unassisted): $105.00
Images provided to researcher via one drive. Use of personal USB drive not allowed.
*** The Electron Microscopy Core provides up to 4 hrs. of training on the use of the TEM. The cost of this training is charged to the researcher at the rate of $195.00/hr. The final decision on whether researcher can go on their own will be determined by the Lab Manager.
Special Procedures, Immunocytochemistry

Specimen Preparation*
Fixation through embedding
1-2 specimens: $450.00
3-10 specimens: $550.00
Over 10 specimens: +$60.00 each additional
*The Electron Microscopy Core uses unicryl (Electron Microscopy Sciences) as a water miscible embedding media for doing post- embedding technique for immuno, post embedding immuno staining is the standard procedure for the lab, but if required can do pre-embedding immuno staining.
Microtomy
- Thick sections (0.5µm) & Toluidine Blue Staining/Block: $65.00
- Thin sections (85-90nm) To include 8 grids**: $85.00
**Eight grids represents enough for 2 immuno attempts
Immunocytochemistry Staining
Immuno staining at the TEM Level, each attempt/antibody***: $555.00
Immuno staining at the LM Level, each attempt/antibody***: $300.00
***Results cannot be guaranteed since antibody specificity/titer, quality of tissue and amount of target protein can limit success. Investigator to provide primary antibody and necessary background literature.
Negative Staining*
Preparation of grids with negative staining: $65.00/grid
Preparation of grids without negative staining: $50.00/grid
*EM Core uses Nanovan (Nanoprobes) as a negative stain

Per hour: $100.00
Electron Microscopy Evaluation/Consultation
Each incoming projects receives an hour consultation at no charge, thereafter there is a $100.00/hr. charge for time spent researching techniques, evaluating data (quantitative and/or qualitative) for anything beyond routine.
External Projects
Each project will be charged double the cost of the regular fee schedule.
- There is no training available or usage of electron microscopy equipment beyond the electron microscopes.
- Cannot guarantee results for specimens or samples prepared outside of the laboratory.
