Statistical Methods in Imaging Conference 2024

The annual meeting of the ASA Statistics in Imaging Section

May 29-31, 2024

It is our great pleasure to host the 2024 annual meeting of the ASA Statistics in Imaging Section. Statistical Methods in Imaging (SMI) aims to bring together investigators from students to established researchers who are working on methods and applications in a diverse array of imaging science, including but not limited to biomedical imaging, immunofluorescence imaging and geospatial imaging.

The conference will be held on May 29–31 at JW Marriott Indianapolis, with an evening social event and poster session on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

The SMI 2024 organizing committee welcomes your submission of proposals for invited oral sessions. Each session consists of four speakers or three speakers and one discussant. To facilitate the organization of the parallel sessions, we ask that each session has an emphasis on either “Statistical Methods” or “Collaborative Case Study.”

“Statical Methods” includes presentations that focus on new developments in statistical theory and methodologies.

“Collaborative Case Study” includes presentations that focus on the analyses of imaging data and the statistical challenges present in the analyses.

The submission deadline is March 23, 2024.

Submit a proposal

Poster abstract submission is open until Friday, April 12, 2024.

Submit poster abstracts

There will be two tracks for the student paper competition: Theory and Methods, and Case Studies and Applications. The selected winners for each track will be invited to present their papers in a session at the conference. The first-place winner and runner-up for each track will receive a cash prize of $1,000 and $500, respectively.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the student paper competition, the student must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Be a degree candidate at an accredited institute in any term during 2023 and 2024.

  • Be the first author of the paper. The paper must not be published or accepted for publication at the time of submission.

  • Be a current member of the ASA Statistics in Imaging Section.

  • Be able to present the paper at SMI 2024.

Submission details

The deadline for submission to the student paper competition is April 5, 2024. Submission should be sent to Dr. Yi Zhao (yz125@iu.edu) with subject line either “SMI 2024: Theory and Methods” or “SMI 2024: Case Studies and Applications” depending on the intended track of the submission. The email should contain the following four attachments in PDF format:

  • The applicant’s curriculum vitae.

  • An unblinded version of the manuscript with no more than 26 pages, including the abstract, figures, tables, and references. The manuscript must be double-space with at least 11-point font size.

  • A blinded version of the manuscript.

  • A letter from a faculty member familiar with the student’s work. The faculty letter must include a verification of the applicant’s student status and, in the case of joint authorship, should indicate what is the contribution of the application to the paper.

A room block from May 28-June 1, 2024 is available at JW Marriott Indianapolis (10 S West St., Indianapolis, IN 46204) and the Courtyard by Marriott Indianapolis Downtown (601 West Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204).

Prices start at $207 per night at JW Marriott Indianapolis and $145 per night at the Courtyard by Marriott Indianapolis Downtown.
