Living in Indianapolis

skyscrapers hover over a busy Massachusetts avenue in Indianapolis on a foggy night.Highly praised for its livability, Indianapolis is a fantastic city to explore and enjoy. Its remarkably low cost of living offers our residents and their families endless opportunities to do just that.

Foodies and craft beer connoisseurs find themselves overwhelmed with thriving restaurant and craft beer scenes. Sports fanatics can experience the largest single-day sporting event in the world at the Indy 500 or take in the atmosphere while cheering on one of many our professional sports teams, from the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers, to Indy Eleven soccer games, minor league baseball and hockey games.

Indianapolis offers many opportunities for cultural and historical enrichment, including a symphony and other performance art organizations, theaters and museums.

Indianapolis hosts the largest gaming convention in the country with GenCon that opens up every August. When it comes to music, Indy draws everything from national headliners playing at one of our large venues to local indie acts playing in one of the many pubs and restaurants.

The city also offers many opportunities for outdoor recreation, from enjoying any of our many running and biking trails to kayaking at Eagle Creek Park to making the short trip to one of the many state parks and nature preserves nearby to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

The many options for family fun include visiting the largest children’s museum in the world to enjoying a walk on Indy’s beautiful cultural trail, exploring any one of the city’s many beautiful parks, or why not take your family to the Indianapolis Zoo or visit our fantastic art museum, Newfields, hosting an amazing collection of the world's greatest artists' works.

The most popular suburbs among our faculty are Carmel, Zionsville, Westfield and Fishers. Many of our faculty live in downtown Indianapolis, the Meridian-Kessler area and the Broad Ripple area.
