Inclusive Excellence Visiting Residency Program

The Inclusive Excellence Visiting Residency program is open to all residents with focus on those whose backgrounds, experiences, or perspectives promote health equity and exemplify inclusive excellence. Selection criteria was developed in alignment with IU School of Medicine’s strategic plan.

Early communication with the program director/coordinator of the program in which you desire to rotate is critical. All visiting rotations are subject to approval by the appropriate program director/coordinator. A visiting residency request must be initiated at least 90 days in advance of the requested start date (shorter timeframes may be denied or delayed). All required documents, licensure, and modules must be received, valid, and completed prior to the requested start date.

Submissions for the Inclusive Excellence Visiting Residency are accepted on a rolling basis. Requests must be submitted 90 days in advance of the desired start date.

Eligibility

Eligible participants must be full-time residents currently enrolled in an ACGME-accredited training program who are in good academic standing at Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) accredited U.S. and U.S territories medical schools.

Financial assistance

The program will pay a $2,000 stipend only to out-of-state visiting residents to support costs associated with participation. Participants will receive compensation upon successful completion of the rotation. 

Application process

Contact the program to which you are applying and complete the Visiting Residency application, which includes:

  • A personal statement discussing how your background, experience, or perspective promote health equity and exemplify inclusive excellence. 
  • A letter of recommendation. 
  • An up to date CV (Curriculum Vitae).
  • A letter from your residency program director stating that the applicant is in good standing.

Review the Visiting Resident Request Overview guide and ensure all information needed for a visiting appointment is provided to the program so that your visit request can be submitted by the program to the Office of Graduate Medical Education.

Length of rotation

Rotations are four weeks in duration and are subject to space availability.
