Underrepresented in Medicine Resident ScholarĀ 

The Underrepresented in Medicine Resident Scholar program is designed to support underrepresented in medicine (URiM) residents and fellows and those whose backgrounds and/or perspectives will contribute to IU School of Medicine's diversity, equity and inclusion goals, to launch careers in academic medicine.  

The Underrepresented in Medicine Resident Scholar program is open to all IU School of Medicine residents and fellows, with intentionality towards those whose backgrounds and/or perspectives will contribute to IU School of Medicine's diversity, equity and inclusion goals. 

  • A $2,500 resident scholar award may be used over two years in residency. The award may be used for project costs or dissemination efforts.

  • The scholarly projects can be basic science, clinical, behavioral, quality improvement or community-engaged research, as well as medical education or service-learning in nature.

  • Scholars are expected to submit their work to the annual IU School of Medicine Education Day 


The application deadline is Friday, October 27. Applicants will be notified of the status of their proposals by the middle of November.

Eligibility

  • IU resident
  • Must submit project proposal, mentorship plan and letter of recommendation

  • Preference will be given to applicants whose personal statements establish that their background and/or perspective will contribute to IU School of Medicine's diversity, equity and inclusion goals.

  • Candidates must be in good academic standing
