Inclusive Excellence Graduating Student Awards

The Center for Inclusive Excellence is thrilled to recognize outstanding graduating students who have demonstrably worked to advance health equity and exemplify inclusive excellence in their academic and personal endeavors.

Nominations for each award can be submitted by students themselves, their peers, or faculty/staff through a single nomination form. Be sure to highlight how the nominee's experiences and perspectives exemplify inclusive excellence and contribute to health equity, aligning with the specific criteria of each award. Recipients, chosen by the Diversity Cabinet, will be honored at the Award Ceremony on May 9th and will receive a $500 prize.

Eligibility and nomination details

  • Nominations for each award can be submitted by students themselves, their peers, or faculty/staff.
  • The deadline to submit nominations is March 19.
  • While students may be nominated for more than one award, they will only be chosen for one.
  • Each award recipient will receive a $500 prize.
  • Recipients will be honored at the Awards Ceremony on May 9.
  • All graduating students are eligible for the Inclusive Excellence Awards. 
  • Nomination statement must highlight how the nominee's experiences, perspectives and service exemplify inclusive excellence and contribute to health equity, aligning with the specific criteria of each award.

Award criteria

Excellence in Basic Science Research Award

This award recognizes a graduating Master's or PhD student who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in both scientific research and public outreach. The recipient will have significantly contributed to sharing science with the public and engaging underrepresented populations in Indiana, exceeding the expectations of their program and research at the IU School of Medicine.

 

George H. Rawls Exemplary Scholar Award

Established in honor of pillar in the African American and IU School of Medicine communities, surgeon, educator, and advocate, George H. Rawls, MD. This award recognizes a graduating student who exemplifies academic excellence and dedication to serving the community. 

 

Excellence in Service Award

This award recognizes a graduating student who embodies the values of health equity and inclusive excellence through their experiences, perspectives, and outstanding dedication to service within the Indiana community.

 

Excellence in Research Award

This award is presented to a graduating student in recognition of their exceptional commitment and achievements in research.
