Carmella Evans-Molina, PhD, MS, MD, serves as the Eli Lilly Foundation Professor of Pediatric Diabetes at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine, where she is the director of the IU Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases and the Indiana Diabetes Research Center (P30 DK097512). She is the program leader of the Diabetes Research Program in the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research, co-primary investigator of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Integrated Islet Distribution Program and a co-executive director of the Network for Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD).
Research in the Evans-Molina laboratory is focused on defining the molecular and inflammatory etiologies of β cell dysfunction that contribute to diabetes pathophysiology. The lab also has a translational and clinical research interest in identifying β cell stress pathways that can be leveraged to inform the development of biomarkers that predict diabetes risk and disease-modifying therapies.
