Campus Student Services

As part of the statewide IU School of Medicine academic advising program, each medical student is assigned a lead advisor, a highly-trained professional who guides students through their entire time in medical school.

IU School of Medicine is committed to helping students with disabilities succeed. All IU School of Medicine students in need of disability accommodations should apply through IU Indianapolis Adaptive Educational Services.

At the Bloomington campus, medical students can access vaccines, primary care, preventative, and women’s health services at the IU Bloomington Health Center.  Other services for diagnostic or therapeutic health services not available at this location can be accessed by referral. Urgent care needs can be accessed at multiple local Bloomington urgent cares, or the IU Health Bloomington Hospital emergency department. IU School of Medicine permits students to be excused from required educational experience to seek needed care under the IU School of Medicine Time Away Policy.

IU Student Legal Services is a non-profit, on campus law office that serves only IU students. Services are free and interaction with attorneys is always confidential. Common areas of practice the office handles are landlord-tenant issues, criminal law issues, family circumstances, financial issues and car accidents.

The Department of Mental Health Services provides mental health and personal counseling services to all IU School of Medicine students, residents, and fellows on every IU School of Medicine campus. Find details about mental health services in Bloomington.

IU Recreational Sports Facilities

Medical students have access to all recreational sports facilities on IU's campus, including the Student Recreational Sports Center and Bill Garrett Fieldhouse. Students also have access to all group exercise classes for free. Many students also enjoy IU's beautiful campus and the many public parks and trails around Bloomington.

There are counseling and psychological services provided through the Student Health Center. 

A student lounge, down the hall from the classrooms in the Regional Academic Health Center, offers a large tv, video games and puzzles for students to decompress and relax.

IU School of Medicine-Bloomington enjoys a highly supportive community that has helped raise important scholarship funds. All medical students at the Bloomington campus are eligible for scholarship consideration, provided that the FAFSA form is submitted to IU School of Medicine. Some awards carry restrictions regarding academic achievement, geographic residence and/or financial need. Even with restrictions, most students are eligible for one or more of the Bloomington campus scholarships.
