Gender Health Program

The Gender Health Program aims to improve the access to and quality of gender affirming medical care for all transgender, gender expansive, and gender nonbinary people at IU School of Medicine and beyond. We are committed to leading the advancement of the health and well-being of transgender people everywhere. For us, gender affirming care is the heart of our programs.

Gender affirming hormone therapy management

Gender affirming hormone therapy helps a person gain the outward characteristics that match their gender identity. This type of care includes puberty blockers for younger people as well as hormones for older people. It is a common medical choice for transgender, gender expansive, and gender nonbinary people who want to align their physical characteristics with their gender identity. Hormone therapy may be used alone or along with gender affirming surgery.

Gender affirming hormone therapy management is provided through the Gender Health Programs at Eskenazi Health and Riley Children's Health. The Riley program provides care for children and adolescents through age 20, while the Eskenazi program focuses on older adolescents and adults. Our team will work with you to learn your goals and to develop an individualized plan to meet your needs.
