Katie Soe, MD is from the San Francisco Bay Area, California and obtained her medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine. She will graduate from the IU Triple Board program in 2021.
Why Triple Board at IU?
I couldn’t imagine training in pediatrics or psychiatry without the other, as the mind and body are so intimately entwined, it would feel incomplete. Neither could I imagine having a better experience than I have at IU. I have found new lifelong friends and a Triple Board family, feel well-versed in diverse clinical experiences, felt consistent program support that allowed me to start an Advocacy Committee at Riley, practiced pediatrics and psychiatry in Kenya via our Global Health Track, took discounted public health courses through IU, and played holiday concerts at our children’s hospital with the IU School of Medicine orchestra. I’ve also enjoyed taking advantage of the easy access to numerous State Parks and other major cities, all within a few hours!
I hope to integrate and apply our multidisciplinary training in the academic setting, working with children with complex medical needs and psychiatric comorbidities, especially via consult-liaison child psychiatry and pediatric hospital medicine. Bridging this with my interest in systems-based care, I serve as the Liaison between the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), and on AACAP’s Triple Board/Post-Pediatric Portal Program Committee. I am passionate about advocating for children’s health both locally and nationally, whether speaking about health at local schools, or engaging trainees nationally through AAP and AACAP leadership positions. I have also been fortunate to explore the field of public psychiatry and serve on the APA Council for Children, Adolescents, and their Families as an APA/APAF Public Psychiatry Fellow.
Outside of work:
I enjoy traveling, outdoor adventures, running, hiking, rock climbing, time with friends, cooking, making and listening to music– including Happy Hour at the Symphony in downtown Indy!
