Bio
Brian K. Yorkgitis, DO, PA-C, FACS, currently serves as the Division Chief of Acute Care Surgery. Yorkgitis received his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed general surgery residency at Temple University Hospital and surgical critical care fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Before joining Indiana University, Yorkgitis was an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine Jacksonville. Yorkgitis was the Pediatric Trauma and PICU Medical Director, Associate Trauma Medical Director of Adult Trauma, TraumaOne Flight and Critical Care Transport at UF Health-Jacksonville. He was the tactical physician for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
His clinical focus is acute care surgery, including critical care, trauma, and emergency general surgery.
Yorkgitis’ research focus is on trauma, pain management, pre-hospital care, and blood clotting. He has served as an author of more than 75 peer-reviewed publications.
Yorkgitis is a member of numerous surgical professional organizations. He currently serves on various committees and in a variety of leadership positions.
