Charles Burney, MD, MPH, currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery. Burney received his medical degree from The University of Toledo College of Medicine.
Prior to joining Indiana University, Dr. Burney completed his General Surgery and Leadership Preventive Medicine Residencies at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and his surgical fellowship in Advanced GI, Minimally Invasive, and Bariatric Surgery at Indiana University. He received his Masters in Public Health from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth during residency. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
His clinical focus is Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery including management of morbid obesity, hiatal or paraesophageal hernia, gastroesophageal reflux and other foregut diseases, abdominal wall hernia, and other gastrointestinal diseases.
Burney is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
