  • Research
Dr. Sharif's research is focused on noninvasive imaging of coronary microcirculation: MRI-based assessment of microvascular health and function leveraging multi-disciplinary innovations in magnetic resonance physics, computational engineering and machine learning.  These investigations are driven by the need to enable reliable and accurate characterization of the relationship between myocardial imaging markers and progression of cardio-metabolic diseases, with an emphasis on translational/mechanistic studies in the context of "small vessel" disease and coronary vasomotor/endothelial dysfunction.

Active research includes (1) development and validation of new functional MRI markers of coronary microcirculation based on innovative high-resolution quantitative myocardial perfusion and blood volume mapping techniques; (2) development and translation of articial-intelligence-enabled MRI approaches aimed at robust quantification of myocardial markers of microvascular dysfunction and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
