Bio

Dr. Ruiz is originally from Bogota, Colombia. He spent most of his childhood in Colombia and moved to the US when he was 15 years old.
Dr. Ruiz completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical science with minors in Public Health and Sociology from the University of South Florida. While an undergraduate student, he worked as a research assistant at USF Health in the ATN 096 trial. He pursued further public health interests at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark during a study abroad experience and spent two years working as a Disease Intervention Specialist improving HIV and Hepatitis C access to care, testing, and treatment in Tampa, Florida. He then moved to Indiana to complete his MD degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
After graduating medical school, Dr. Ruiz chose to remain at IU for his Internal Medicine residency training. Dr. Ruiz is excited to continue pursuing a career as an academic Hospitalist at IU Health and will remain involved in medical education at IUSM while providing excellent comprehensive care to some of the most complex and diverse patients in the state of Indiana.
Dr. Ruiz enjoys diagnosing and treating a variety of complex medical conditions and practicing a holistic approach to medicine. In his free time he can be found playing tennis, enjoying DEKA fitness classes, exploring new restaurants, traveling, and enjoying time with his wife and family.
