Dr. Sarah E. Bauer is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and the Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship Director at Indiana University School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine (2015) and completed her pediatric residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio (2018), and her pediatric pulmonology fellowship at Riley Hospital (2021). She received her graduate certificate in public health from the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health. She is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric pulmonary medicine. Dr. Bauer holds membership in numerous national professional societies including the American Thoracic Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has a passion for advocacy and education with a special interest in tobacco and e-cigarette prevention and cessation. Her research focuses on pediatric lung disease.

Dr. Bauer’s research interests include bronchopulmonary dysplasia, chronic respiratory failure, chronic invasive mechanical ventilation, the care and management of patients with tracheostomies, bronchoscopy, and tobacco and e-cigarettes.
Dr. Bauer has a special interest in the care of children with complex respiratory problems, requiring chronic ventilator support via tracheostomy at home. Other clinical interests include: Tracheostomy Dependence, Respiratory Disease, Pulmonary Disorders, Neonatal Lung Diseases, Lung Development, Chronic Mechanical Ventilation, Chronic Lung Disease of Prematurity (Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia), Bronchoscopy, Lung Injury, and Tobacco and E-cigarette prevention, use, and dependence.
